LARGE & MIXED-FORMAT COLLECTIONS
Managing a substantial video archive involves much more than transferring individual tapes. Collections may span several decades and multiple formats, with inconsistent labelling, different recording standards and material in varying condition.
For larger projects, we establish the workflow before digitisation begins — assessing the collection, agreeing file specifications, naming conventions, metadata requirements and quality control, and identifying any material that may need additional restoration or preparation.

Our Technical Director, Alex Diaz, has more than 15 years working with professional broadcast media, including five years as a media operator in a Soho machine room.
In 2023, The National Gallery commissioned Flying Tiger Productions to digitise and restore its complete videotape archive, a collection spanning nearly 40 years and multiple legacy formats. That project gave us direct experience of managing a substantial institutional collection from physical media through to organised digital assets.
We maintain specialist legacy playback equipment alongside professional broadcast signal-processing and capture hardware, including Snell & Wilcox and Blackmagic equipment. This enables us to select an appropriate replay and capture chain for the source format and the preservation requirements of the collection.
As a small specialist team, we can work closely with you throughout the project, respond to issues as they arise and maintain clear communication from initial assessment through to final delivery.
